Programme Note

In 1987, the London College of Music celebrated its centenary with a number of events in venues in London and other centres throughout Britain. The major event was a Centenary Concert, held at the Barbican, London, on March 9th 1987, and this short Fanfare was written especially for this occasion. It hardly needs any discussion, being a straightforward example of this kind of thing, with an introduction followed by a quicker section, the whole lasting little more than a minute. Writing occasional works of this kind, however, is not as easy as it might seem, and the task of doing so is a challenge which it is great fun to take up.
