Programme Note
Queen of the Night. Based on a Purcell song, from the Yorkshire Feast Song, which I remember singing as a school kid, it is based on an amazingly minimal ground bass that modulates and that I have slightly ‘reggaefied.’ The final section uses that prevalent bass line to support a totally different melodic and harmonic world.
