Programme Note

Commissioned by St Luke's College, Exeter, this two part setting can be sung by male, female or mixed voices and organ. Just as Paraphrase I is related to the motet John, this setting of the Mass is connected to Outcry, an extended work for contralto solo, chorus and orchestra commissioned by the Coventry Philharmonic Society for first performance on May 10th this year. Like the composer's Magnificat and Nunc Dimittis for unison voices and organ, this Communion Service is concerned with an endlessly sustained organ part against which the voices project the text.
