Programme Note
Snowfall in Winter was written during Autumn 2003 for Tamami Honma, whose playing of my music has been a source of inspiration to me, and is dedicated to her and to Madoka Saji, who gave the ide for the piece. It is a souvenir of a visit to Vilnius, Lithuania, and the title characterizes the musical nature of the piece. It is a study in quiet dynamins, in the use of an ostinato figure (which gradually descends through the keyboard, its accompanying melody therefore rising), and in subtleties of pedalling, and lasts for about five minutes.
