Reviews

  • ...Aztec Dances by Gregson which was hypnotic. The audience were enthralled as they journeyed back to the primitive and sometimes sinister times of the Aztecs. [...] There were moments of terror, stillness, and frenzy, culminating in a rhythmic dance to the finish.
    Sarah Heard, Pan Magazine, 01/09/2012
  • The original version of the piece is for recorder, but this version is specifically adapted for the flute and the material suits the instrument very well. [...] The piece is written in a modern and approachable style, with good contrast between the four movements and some enjoyably dramatic sections. The strong opening flourishes immediately grab the attention, and Gregson uses the flute and piano to create a range of colours and textures throughout. The piece requires good technical control and a wide dynamic range, and would be suitable for advanced players. Highly recommended.
Carla Rees, British Flute Society Magazine, 01/09/2011
