• John Duggan ‘La Ballade de Jesus Christ’. A whimsical French legend is set in a sensitive SATB (mostly) arrangement of the 17th century French carol often sung to the hymn, ‘Let all mortal flesh keep silence’. In the two outer verses the soprano melody is accompanied by sweetly dissonant ATB harmony, while the tenors have the theme in verse two in the midst of a gentle SAB ostinato. An archaic note is struck by simultaneous sharpened and flattened alto and bass leading notes at the final cadences of the outer verses.
