Programme Note

ECHOES FROM A PLAY was written in 1990 at the request of Thomas Gallant, and first performed in July that year at the Ravinia Festival USA, by Thomas Gallant with the Kronos Quartet. The music is derived from Sallinen's The Palace, the most tonal of his operas, but more than a touch of irony beneath is concealed beneath its overt tunefulness.
